As a mum to one curious little explorer, I’m always on the lookout for places that offer fun and learning. The Queens Park Environmental Education Centre was a perfect discovery—a place where kids can delve into nature, sustainability, and our waterways in a way that’s hands-on, engaging, and air-conditioned (a big plus on those hot Ipswich days!).

From the moment we stepped inside, my little one’s face lit up. The centre welcomes you with a cozy replica fig tree surrounded by books about Australian wildlife and nature. My child loved snuggling up with the soft plush animals, pressing the sound buttons, and hearing the calls of birds —it was like stepping into a storybook!

Hands-On Fun and Learning

Walking around the tree, we found so many activities designed to spark curiosity. There were puzzles, games, magnifying glasses, natural materials, and toys. My child spent ages examining the intricate setups, and I couldn’t help but admire the effort put into making learning so inviting.

The highlight of our visit? Definitely the sustainability dollhouse. This miniature eco-friendly home was kitted out with a solar panel, greenhouse, and vegetable garden, offering an adorable and educational way for kids to role-play living sustainably. My little one loved rearranging the tiny furniture while chatting about how we could have a veggie patch at home someday.

Learn Something New

The centre isn’t just for kids; it’s packed with resources for parents too. While my child explored, I browsed displays on how to:

  • Reduce, reuse, and recycle household waste properly
  • Start composting or a worm farm
  • Lower your household’s carbon footprint
  • Care for local waterways

It was inspiring to see displays showcasing sustainability projects by local schools—proof that our next generation is already thinking about protecting the planet.

Puggles Playtime

We were lucky enough to visit on a Friday and joined Puggles Playtime, a free session for kids under 5. This week’s activity was a fun and interactive recycling incursion, where the little ones learned about sorting waste through play. These sessions, which run from 9:30–11:30 am during school terms, usually include a storytime and an eco-themed activity.
